Bill’s career has been evenly split between being an entrepreneur and as a partner at GMG Capital Partners, an early stage venture fund. He has participated in 23 start-ups helping to invest $300 million in a portfolio managed by GMG, while also raising over $30 million for companies he started or was involved with. Bill has experience in corporate and business development, fund raising, launching products and managing the growth of startups to exit.

Bill J. Brooks, PhD
Bill studied hardware and software engineering at Oregon Tech before coming to Oregon State to study chemical engineering where he completed a PhD and postdoc. He currently runs his family's farm, consults, and works at eChemion. His responsibilities at eChemion include designing, building, and testing equipment and processes to research novel, advanced materials and produce bipolar plates for redox flow batteries.
Joe started his career as an analyst/consultant with private equity firm Weise Peck and Greer prior to launching GMG Capital Partners, an early stage venture fund. Joe managed and raised over $300 million (in three funds), investing in early stage companies in the network access, network security and network storage markets. Joe currently works with Nottingham and Spirk developing and funding start-ups incubated by the company’s innovation labs.

Bill is an experienced chemical engineer with MBA who has focused on technology development throughout his career. During his 30+ years at CH2M, an international engineering, design & construction company, he was elected as a Vice President and Technology Fellow where his responsibilities included identifying and developing new technologies for the benefit of CH2M’s clients. Bill is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and served as President of AIChE in 2004.
He is a licensed professional engineer in Oregon in both Chemical and Environmental Engineering and is a Board Certified Environmental Engineer as administered by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. He was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business, and was inducted into Oregon State University’s Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 1998, the Academy’s inaugural year.

Carlos has extensive experience as an angel investor having co-invested in several companies associated with eChemion’s CEO, Bill Kesselring. Carlos’ has substantial experience designing and developing firmware for storage systems ranging from hard drives to NAND memories systems. Over the years, he’s pioneered new product designs for Seagate, SanDisk and Western Digital. Carlos oversaw the development, marketing and introduction of SanDisk’s USB memory sticks to OEM and retail markets worldwide.
